Living in Pudong, Shanghai - East of the river

Until 1999 Pudong for most people wasn't considered a viable housing option. At that time, Pudong was commonly referred to the entire Shanghai area East of the river. The past 5 years of rapid development of industry, schools and properties "East of the river" have now lead to Pudong becoming an extremely popular and important option for expatriates. While Pudong is still often referred to the entire area "East of the river", it may be helpful to familiarize yourself with the regions that officially make up Pudong.
